Magento Integration for Optical Inventory Management

Client Profile

Our client is a UK-based optician that focuses on delivering quality eye care through personalized service and professional staff. The company employs GOC-registered optometrists and offers the latest technologies from the world’s leading manufacturers of designer and non-designer glasses.

Project Overview

Our client’s website was developed using ASP.NET with Zen Cart integrated to display only one product. The client wanted to showcase their entire inventory of glasses available across 36 retail stores in the UK. We recommended Magento as the eCommerce platform of choice to meet our client’s requirement due to its highly scalable and powerful features. The flexible and versatile platform helped our client simplify online reservations, branch pickup (for existing customers), and online sales. The Magento site was integrated with a Business Management System (BMS) called Optix, for inventory management.

QBurst Solution

We built a website using Magento and integrated the entire inventory of products with Optix. We incorporated a branch selection logic in product purchase to enable optimal dispensing of orders. As it was essential to fetch product data and branch-wise stock for stock update from Optix, we limited the API call to a batch of 10 products (large number of products causes timeout in Optix API) and the result of each call was combined to update stock. We resolved all compatibility issues with IE 10 and Mac OSX, adding specific script/class where required.
